Step 1: Exfoliate, Exfoliate

24 - 48 hours before your spray tan

Pre-session exfoliation is the first step to achieving flawless spray tanning results. It is best to clear away dry, dead skin cells with a professional, sulfate-free scrub such as the Norvell Sunless Exfoliator. This will polish and prep the pH balance of the skin to keep orange undertones at bay.

Tips To Prep For The Perfect Tan:

  • Avoid using bar soaps, high pH shower products or in-shower moisturizers.

  • Be sure to complete any waxing, shaving or use of depilatory creams no later than 24 hours prior to your session.

Step 2: Prepare to Bronze

As you prepare for your Norvell sunless tan, be sure to wear loose fitting, dark clothing and no jewelry.  Tight clothing can run or smear bronzers, especially around the knees, elbows, chest and waist.  There are some important “don’ts” you won’t want to ignore.  Deep penetration of the solution is key to a beautiful, lasting color.

Tips To Prep For The Perfect Tan:

  • Don’t create a sunless barrier by applying anything to the skin.

  • Avoid applying lotions, creams or perfumes prior to your session (use deodorant sparingly, if at all).

  • Don’t wear any makeup, and/or remove it prior to your spray tan.

Step 3: Moisturize, Moisturize!

After Session Care

While some of our rapid solutions allow you to rinse within just a few hours, we recommend waiting at least 12-16 hours before you shower!  When showering, use a pH Balancing Shower Cleanser such as the Norvell Post-Tan Shower Cleanser.  As with all DHA products, sunless color begins showing development approximately 4 hours post application and continues to darken for up to 24 hours.  If you must shower before the 24 hours has lapsed, do with a warm water rinse only.  After your first shower, moisturize with a tan extender, such as the Norvell Prolong Tan Extender, 2-3 times daily.  Hydrated skin will maintian a glowing tan best.

Tips To Prep For The Perfect Tan:

  • Refrain from showering as long as possible, ideally for 24 hours.

  • The use of soap can inhibit the full development of DHA.

  • Chlorine can cause premature fading of sunless results.

  • Use products such as the Norvell Gradual Self Tanning Lotion to extend the life of your sunless tan!
